Một số trong các bạn đã hỏi tôi về các kĩ năng công nghệ là quan trọng trong kinh doanh ngày nay. Là sinh viên kĩ nghệ phần mềm, bạn muốn biết kĩ năng nào bạn sẽ cần có để kiếm được việc tốt trong thế giới toàn cầu này.

Tôi đã soạn một danh sách các khu vực mà bạn có thể xem xét tới, tất nhiên nó có thể bị giới hạn dựa trên điều tôi biết nhưng đó là khu vực bắt đầu tốt cho một số trong các bạn.

Để làm việc như kĩ sư phần mềm, bên cạnh các kĩ năng lập trình cơ bản như C, C++, Java, Ruby, và Python, bạn có thể xây dựng tri thức chuyên gia kĩ thuật phụ trong các khu vực sau:

• Nền tính toán:  UNIX (AIX, HP-UX, và Solaris), Linux; phần mềm nhúng (Symbian, BREW, Microsoft Windows Mobile, mLinux, iPhone, và ứng dụng iTRON); Ứng dụng di động: J2ME, K-Java, M-Flash; PC (Windows, Vista, Windows Server, v.v.);
• Nền hệ điều hành: Windows Server, Sun/HP, Unix/IBM AIX, và Linux;
• Nguồn phục vụ cơ sở  dữ liệu DB: Oracle 9i/10g; SQL Server 2000, 2005; DB2; Sybase; Informix, và MySQL;
• Nguồn phục vụ OLAP: Hyperion Essbase; Cognos PowerCube; Microsoft SQL Server 2005/2008, Analytic Service (SSAS) và Oracle OLAP;
• ETL: Informatica; IBM Websphere Datastage; Cognos Decision Stream; Microsoft SQL Server Integration Service (SSIS); và Oracle Data Integrator.

Which Technology skills are needed?

Some of you have asked me about the technology skills that are important in today’s business. As software engineer students, you want to know which skills you will need to have in order to get good jobs in this globalized world. I have compiled a list of areas that you may want to consider, of course it may be limited based on what I know but it is a good starting area for some of you.

To work as software engineers, beside the basic programming skills such as C, C++, Java, Ruby, and Python, you may want to build additional technical expertise in the following areas:

• Computing Platform:  UNIX (AIX, HP-UX, and Solaris), Linux; Embedded software (Symbian, BREW, Microsoft Windows Mobile, mLinux, iPhone, and iTRON applications); Mobile Applications: J2ME, K-Java, M-Flash; PC (Windows, Vista, Windows Server, etc.);
• OS Platform: Windows Server, Sun/HP, Unix/IBM AIX, and Linux;
• DB Server: Oracle 9i/10g; SQL Server 2000, 2005; DB2; Sybase; Informix, and MySQL;
• OLAP Server: Hyperion Essbase; Cognos PowerCube; Microsoft SQL Server 2005/2008, Analytic Service (SSAS) and Oracle OLAP;
• ETL: Informatica; IBM Websphere Datastage; Cognos Decision Stream; Microsoft SQL Server Integration Service (SSIS); and Oracle Data Integrator.

Another technology area that you may want to consider is Service Orient Architecture (SOA). This is a design framework to re-architect discrete functions into standard business process modules. Due to its flexible and business-oriented concepts, SOA has seen rapid acceptance across industries and organizations. According to Gartner Inc., a technology consultant, SOA will be used in more than 80 percent of mission-critical operational applications and business processes in the next five years. Most SOA/Middleware will utilize the following technologies: IBM WebSphere; MQ Series, DB2, Tivoli, and Rational,TIBCO Product Suite, Rendezvous; Oracle/BEA AquaLogic, WebLogic, Tuxedo, Fusion; Microsoft .NET, BizTalk.

Because most businesses are using Commercial off the Shelves package for their ERP, CRM, SCM systems, you will need to have knowledge of both the SAP and Oracle packages. For European market, SAP is very popular but for North America, Oracle and Peoplesoft are more popular.
